The International Wind Energy Exhibition 2022 in Hamburg recently concluded in Germany. With the theme "It's time to put climate first", the exhibition attracted more than 1,400 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions around the world. As an important exhibition and communication platform for the global wind energy industry, the latest equipment and solutions for the onshore and offshore wind energy industry chain launched at the show became the vane of industry development.

The development of hydrogen energy, especially green hydrogen energy generated by electrolysis of water through renewable energy sources such as wind power, was one of the focal points of the exhibition. Bernd Aufderheide, Chairman and CEO of Hamburger Messe, said, "Wind energy and hydrogen energy are the 'twins' belonging to the energy world of the future, and green hydrogen energy is an important means to achieve carbon neutrality."

For the first time, a parallel Hydrogen Energy Forum was set up at the exhibition to provide a communication platform for professionals to discuss the production, transport, storage and use of green hydrogen energy. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research set up a booth at the Hydrogen Energy Forum to present the progress of three key hydrogen energy research projects in addressing technical barriers to mass production of water electrolysis tanks, offshore wind energy for hydrogen production and safe transportation of hydrogen. The host city of Hamburg presented its plan for a hydrogen energy industrial network in Hamburg, hoping to establish a German-wide and Europe-wide hydrogen energy network by 2030 to provide the hydrogen energy needed for industry.

Intelligence and automation of wind power equipment became a trend in the industry. In front of the Danish ROPE booth, a blue robot performs maintenance operations on wind turbine blades, cleaning, grinding, polishing and painting the blades, which is expected to replace the current manual work required to maintain and repair wind turbine blades. The blade control system exhibited by Germany's Weidmüller Group can continuously monitor and analyze data related to turbine blades to understand the operating status of the equipment in real time and discover possible problems at the first time so that users can repair and reduce equipment loss as early as possible.

At the exhibition, technologies and products brought by Chinese companies such as Sany Heavy Energy and Sinotrans Yongji received attention. The Global Wind Energy Council and Sany Heavy Energy signed a strategic cooperation agreement during the exhibition. Ben Bakewell, CEO of the Global Wind Energy Council, believes that China has become the world's largest wind power market, and the rise of Chinese wind power companies has injected a strong impetus to the development of global wind power.

Robert Habeck, Deputy Chancellor and Minister of Economy and Climate Protection of Germany, said at the exhibition that the exhibition will promote the energy transition in Germany and Europe. The German government has already introduced a national hydrogen energy strategy and plans to invest 9 billion euros to support the development of hydrogen energy, hoping that hydrogen energy can become a core component of its "decarbonization" strategy.
